What are History Games?

History Games: our definition:

"In an historical simulation game, participants take on roles based on real people or groups in history. They are then given a crisis or series of crises, and have to interact within that context, indulging in decision making, negotiating, communicating, leading and generally wheeling and dealing as circumstances dictate."

Virtually any subject can be the source of inspiration for a successful history game - giving nearly limitless scope for designers.

History is full of problems, crises and situations most of which have resonance today - history games give participants that opportunity to distance themselves from the present day, while at the same time exploring present-day issues from that 'safe distance'.
